Pimpernel the prancing poet,
Is the most bizarre of folk,
Because he wears exploding hats,
He pens his odes through clouds of smoke.

Pimpernel the prancing poet,
Skips around his garden shed,
Busy writing rhyming couplets,
While juggling with loaves of bread.

Pimpernel the prancing poet,
Capers freely through the trees,
Composing limericks and haikus,
Wearing cymbals on his knees.

Pimpernel the prancing poet,
Pirouettes about the place,
Jotting down his joyful verse,
With toast and jam upon his face.

Pimpernel the prancing poet,
Dances jigs in the pouring rain,
While he scribbles down his sonnets,

For Pimpernel is quite insane.

They seek him here, they seek him there, those Frenchies seek him everywhere.
Is he in heaven or is he in hell? That damned elusive Pimpernel

The Scarlet Pimpernel is the first novel in a series of historical fiction by Baroness Orczy, published in 1905. ... He is known by his symbol, a simple flower, the scarlet pimpernel (Anagallis arvensis). Marguerite Blakeney, his French wife, does not share his secret.
