FIRST CONTACT DAY
SOURCE TIMEANDDATE.COM

Fans of the sci-fi series Star Trek celebrate First Contact Day on April 5 to mark the day in 2063 when humans make their first contact with the Vulcans.
The day is celebrated as a minor holiday in the Star Trek world and made its first appearance on the episode named Homestead in the Star Trek: Voyager series.

TV Show

Star Trek is an American television and film enterprise first created in 1966 by Gene Roddenberry. The first television series in the franchise debuted in 1966 and is now known as The Original Series. It followed the adventures of the crew of the starship USS Enterprise under the leadership of Captain James T Kirk.

Humanoid Race

The Enterprise is a 23rd-century spaceship of the United Federation of Planets, a federation of more than 150 governments from different planets. The Federation as it is popularly known was created in 2161.
The Vulcans are a humanoid race from the planet Vulcan, which is about 16 light years from Earth. Vulcans are considered to be masters of logic who have found ways to suppress their violent emotions. Commander Spock is one of the most well-known Vulcans in the Star Trek universe.

How to Celebrate when this virus has gone.....

  • Have a Star Trek themed party for all your family and friends. Have your guests come dressed as their favorite characters.
  • Attend a Star Trek fan meet and meet other like-minded people.
  • Hold a Start Trek viewing marathon.
  • Greet everyone you meet on this day with the Vulcan salute. To do this, raise your hands with your palm facing outwards, and your thumb away from your hand. Part your middle and ring finger such that the index and middle finger are together and your ring and little finger are close to each other.
Star Trekking

When Enterprise launched to Space
Boldly looking for an alien race.
With her shields set on high,
as she shot through the sky,
and warped from place to place.

When the ship was attacked,
It always fought back
The phasers were fired;
the baddies expired,
and little small me was inspired

I wanted to be Kirk
To Captain and lead
Boldly go and go Boldly
All at light speed
So live long and prosper
Whatever your race
We’ll all be one nation
When we conquer space

When Stephen Hawking guest starred on the Star Trek: The Next Generation, he paused in front of the warp core set piece and remarked, “I’m working on that”.

Nichelle Nichols (“Lt. Uhura”) resigned from Star Trek after the first season, but reconsidered after a conversation with a big Star Trek fan. The fan was Martin Luther King, Jr.

An episode of Star Trek – The Next Generation was banned in Ireland and the UK because it referenced how Ireland was unified in 2024 after a successful terrorist campaign.

Ronald Reagan visited the set of Star Trek The Next Generation in 1991 during filming of “Redemption”. He remarked then “I like them [the Klingons]. They remind me of Congress.”

The Klingon language was first developed by James Doohan (Star Trek’s Scotty). He devised the language’s basic sound, first few words and phrases.

During the filming of Star Trek (2009) Zachary Quinto couldn’t manage to properly do the Vulcan salute. Eventually, JJ Abrams had to glue his
fingers together in order for Quinto to do it correctly.

Teleportation was used in Star Trek because the budget didn’t allow for expensive shots of spaceships landing on planets.

Eddie Murphy wanted a starring role in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. A part was written for him, but he ultimately disliked it and chose to make The Golden Child. Murphy later said this decision was a mistake.

Space Shuttle Constitution had its name changed to Enterprise following a letter-writing campaign by Star Trek fans.

Stephen Hawking guest starred in an Episode of Star Trek, as himself, playing a game of poker with Albert Einstein, Sir Isaac Newton and Data.

Patrick Stewart thought Star Trek: The Next Generation was going to be a huge failure and originally only signed on for a paycheck and a sun tan!

The original flip phone design was inspired from the communicator used in the Star Trek series.

The first entirely computer generated movie sequence in cinema history was the Genesis Device demonstration video in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. The studio that made the scene would later become Pixar.

DeForest Kelley refused to deliver his catchphrase “he’s dead, Jim” at the end of Star Trek II for Spock’s death, feeling the line was too glib for the moment’s gravitas, which is why Scotty says, “He’s dead already.” instead.

James Doohan, who played Lt. Commander Montgomery Scott ( Scotty) on Star Trek, is missing the entire middle finger on his right hand (he lost it on D-Day).

In Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan’ all of Khan’s men were Chippendale dancers at the time.

THAT'S AMAAAAAAAAAZING !

The largest gathering of people dressed as Star Trek characters is 1,063 and was achieved by Media 10 Ltd (UK) at ExCel London, London, UK, on 20 October 2012.

Love this writer I bought his previous books and in my opinion this is the best so far. The stories are much more diverse than the others. For a book of short stories there are a lot there, great to pop in and read as and when you want to. Read mine on the train, I laughed out loud at one point making my fellow passengers jump out of their seats. Recommended read....

International Tell a Lie Day

Tell a Lie Day.....  if you ever need to tell a lie, today is the day to do so.

While the name suggests that the holiday encourages people to tell lies all day long, I would like to think that the day is not an actual celebration of lying but an acknowledgment that lying is part of life, and sometimes people have to lie to make others feel better. Such lies are called white lies and are possibly the only form of lying acceptable within most religions, cultures, and societies.

Other acceptable forms of lying include: lying while playing a game (bluffing), lies made for the purposes of amusement of the liar or other people (jocose lies), and untruthful statements made without any malicious intent (honest lie).
...that a true or false response to the question this statement is not true leads to a contradiction called the Liar's Paradox? If the response to this statement is that it is true, then the statement is false, and if the response to the statement is that it is false, then the statement is true.

SPANKING NEW POEM - Liar Liar My Pants are on Fire

I never lie and that's
the truth
Back through time
From now to Youth

I didnt do it
It was already broke
I wasn't there
It was just a joke

White lies don't
count
Unless you tell
the wrong amount

So let me say
In an honest way
I'm six foot tall
and wear a toupee

LIES YOUR PARENTS TELL YOU

THE BIG LIE - "Santa Claus will come to bring you presents on Christmas Eve" Nearly 88% of us are guilty of this one, whether just to make your kid smile or to get them to shape up or else! Made it through another year without my kids figuring out this one. Fingers crossed for next year.

THE SILVER MEDAL FIB - "If you don't come with me now, I'll leave you here by yourself" Almost 68% of us have said this in order to scare our little ones into action because it's either that or you're going to carry them out under your arm kicking and screaming.

ROUNDING OUT THE TOP 3 - "If you put this tooth under your pillow, the Tooth Fairy will bring you money" Again around two-thirds (66%) of us tell this story to watch the wonder in our kids eyes. My young ones still have plenty of teeth left to lose, on with the glitter and fairy notes.

THE RUNNER UP LIE - "That's beautiful piano playing" Ouch!! 60% of us parents have said this to encourage our kids to keep it up cause we know they'll get better... soon... hopefully...

LIE #5 - "There's no more candy in the house" This one has been known to backfire. Whenever I say this it prompts my kids to go looking for the 'missing' candy and 58% of us have tried to get our kids to buy this falsehood. And the little buggers probably have their own stash anyway.

LIE #6 - "We can come back and buy you that toy next time" HA! Try not to over-use this or they'll end up calling your bluff "Yeah, right dad... That's what you said LAST time." 48% say this. The "I have no money" one still works on mine. Cause, I don't.

LIE #7 - "If you don't quiet down and behave, that lady over there will be angry with you" These last four lies including this one I've never used but alas, 35% of you have. I think I still behave to this day because I'm afraid of getting yelled at.

LIE #8 - "I didn't bring money with me today" 33% of parents seem to suffer from financial amnesia when out shopping. Be careful, as they age they'll start to wonder why you always shop with no money.

LIE #9 - "If you lie to someone, your nose will grow" A tad over 21% of you have actually tried this one and I'm betting your little ones gave you a quizzical look as most kids know everything in a movie is fake. you'll have better luck telling them that their pants will be on fire, from your boot!

AND THE LAST LIE - "If you don't follow me, a kidnapper will come grab you" 18% of you have actually said this and I gotta say, I'd never use this one. It's too close to truth and feels more like a warning than a lie. Be prepared for paranoia if you try this.

The month of April brings spring showers. After those showers, the sun comes out and a rainbow often appears. This makes today, the perfect time to celebrate Find a Rainbow Day! We don't always hope for rain in an already rainy month. But, in order to truly enjoy this day, you need rain in order to see a rainbow. And, if you are really lucky, you may see a rare double rainbow. Make sure you have your camera at the ready, so you can capture the moment.

Alright, let's all go back to our school science class days for a moment, to remember exactly how a rainbow is formed. A rainbow is a meteorological phenomena. A rainbow is bent, refracted white light, forming all the colours of the light spectrum. In high school, your science teacher used a prism, to demonstrate this dispersion of light into its primary colours. When you see a rainbow, it's the same principle as the prism. Water particles in the air act as a prism to bend light, forming the rainbow.

Do You Remember? If you know Roy G. Biv, advance to the head of the class! Roy G. Biv was the name science teachers used, to help us to memorize the major colors of the white light spectrum, in the order with which they appear in a rainbow. They are: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet.

Here's another fact you may not know: A rainbow is actually a circle. But, rainbows are low in the sky, with the bottom half lost in the earth.

Rainbow

Grey and grey
and greyer and grey
Grey and grey and greeeey
I can sing a rainbow
Sing a rainbow
Sing a rainbow too
(Shame I can't see it though
Colourblind !)

That's Amaaaaaaaaazing
These seven colours in the rainbow are just the main ones, a rainbow is actually made up of an entire range of colours, any colour you’ve ever seen, even colours you haven’t seen! Nobody sees colours the same, everyone’s eyes react differently depending on how much light there is, so some people may see more colours than what you see.
