The Radio Alarm starts singing.
We awake, yawning!
Who needs the toilet first - going,
Flushing and hand washing,
Puts the kettle on, - boiling,
Coffee making.
Curtains opening,
Then, sitting in bed drinking
Out of the window - looking
What is today’s weather doing?
Is it worth getting out and dressing?
Is it worth our day starting?
Yes!, here we are - coming!
For students, waking up early isn’t just about making it to class on time. In a study conducted by Texas University, those students who identified as “morning people” earned higher results than their “night people” counterparts.
You are less likely to be distracted if you get to work before others are awake. It seems logical and yet so often we let our brains convince us that staying in bed in the better option. Start your day with something that requires your full focus and you’re much more likely to get it done than if you started that same task midday.
People who wake up early are noted as being more positive and happier than those who rise later. They also report feeling healthier due to their early starts likely due to the fact that their days don’t feel as cramped with end of the day deadlines looming so closely.
Early risers are much more likely to use their morning time to organize their thoughts and things for the day. Likely due to this, those early risers are also more likely to be seen as “problem solvers” those those who rise later and tend to jump from one unorganised thought to another.
Have you ever been guilty of wishing there was more time in the day? If you said yes, are you also a later riser? Those who wake up early claim that they rarely wish for more time. On the other hand, those who sleep later literally have fewer hours in their day before they need to head to bed again.
Early risers tend to make more healthy decisions when it comes to food. This can be broken down in this way: early risers start their day with a good breakfast. A late riser might skip on the breakfast and then, in their hunger, make the easier choice for lunch over the healthiest. Those early risers who had a healthy breakfast and much more likely to eat a smaller and more planned out lunch.
You’re much more patient after you first wake up. Our willpower is something that becomes slowly exhausted as the day goes on. So if you wake up early, you’re much more likely to be able to withstand that first frustrating setback in the day.
