Recently I was approached by my local museum to provide a piece regarding their
collection of vintage hats. They wanted something to use on their web site and with
the display.

I came up with a little story.

Rather than publishing it on here in one big chunk.
I've decided to break it down to short manageable pieces so you
can have a brief read.

Hat Box

Part 4

To his disgust,he could see tendrils of his charred skin follow it.......

He clenched his teeth and fell to the ground; he rolled around and around in the dust to extinguish himself. He slowly stopped when he realised he was untouched and unmarked. He looked at his hands; they were perfectly intact and unmarked.

Dave, the site foreman, popped his head through the room door.

“You OK Rob? I heard a bang.”

“Yeah, I’m alright thanks, think I’ve inhaled too much dust from this cupboard, I’m gonna finish early.”

“You should have worn a facemask,you daft lad!”

“I know that now” Rob shrugged with embarrassment.

“OK Rob, see you tomorrow.”

Rob gathered up his belongings. As he did so,he saw another open box near the door.

 Hanging out was a brand new bowler hat. A tsunami of nostalgic warmth washed over him. He remembered as a child watching old black and white comedies with his Dad. Harold Lloyd, Buster Keaton, Laurel and Hardy and of course, Charlie Chaplin.

His dad would love that hat.

As his hands were full, he took a chance and popped it onto his head. He waited for some terrible vision or event but nothing happened, relieved, he walked out of the room.........

Today we think about those poor waifs.

So kick off your shoes and socks and enjoy your carpet and luxary,
but also think of those who don't have that luxury.

Dear Glasgow Boy, 

Yes, of course I can help, there's no need to waste money on expensive iPods. Simply think of your favourite tune and whistle it. If you want to "switch tracks", simply think of another song you like and whistle that instead. As a Scotchman I'm sure you will appreciate the cost saving.

In the early 1300s, England established the first means to measure shoe size. King Edward II declared barleycorn as the basis for shoe measurement. He ruled that the length of three barleycorns were equivalent to one inch, making this the standard for sizing. 

For centuries, heels signified a high social standing rather than gender. It was also crucial for men riding horses to have a heel on their boot in order to stay in their stirrups. 

The most expensive shoes ever sold for $660,000.

Dorothy’s iconic ruby red slippers from ‘The Wizard of Oz’ naturally and rightfully so earn this top spot. The original pair sold at an auction in 2000. 

Apparently, dreaming about shoes can signify whether you’re feeling well-grounded, or may indicate your level of self-esteem.

The first lady’s boot was created for Queen Victoria in 1840.
