International Video Games Day

From Atari to Xbox, Playstation to Wii.... They've been with us now for nearly 40 years and have changed the way kids ( and big kids ) play.

On a plus side they have allowed us to see and experience worlds and activities that we would
never be able to experience in real life, driving a F1 car to fighting Zombies.

On the negative side, there is no doubt that they are addictive, as a gamer myself I can confirm that hours pass as you strive for...'the next level'.

Now the realism is about to 'level up' as virtual reality puts you 'in' the game.

So celebrate this day but not alone, why not have a party and play with friends, there are some great games out there for sharing.

Lament for a Gamer

Depression is chemical
or so they say
Tablets to be taken
twice a day

Like pacman chasing little
blue pills
Or Mario bouncing
round those hills

I wish I had just 1
more try
Another slice of
virtual pie

I dodge and dance
with invaders from space
Whilst trying to to win
The human 'race'

But in this life
you get one game
when you die
wont come back again

So I'll storm that
castle until I'm Done
I get the message
You've finally won

Video Game Facts

Mario was actually named after the landlord of Nintendo’s first warehouse Mr. Mario Segale.

Pac-Man was invented by the designer Toru Iwatani while he was eating pizza.

The video game industry is valued at 70 Billion Dollars worldwide.

Due to the popularity of the Nintendo game Mario Brothers in 1983, there was an explosion of name Mario given to children around that time.

In the original arcade version of Donkey Kong, Mario was called jump man and he was a carpenter, not a plumber.

The best-selling consoles of all time are the PlayStation 2 and Nintendo DS both tied with an about 155 million units sold.

Atari is a Japanese word that actually means success.

Random Joke of the Day

My son told me he found some cassette tapes with some 'banging tunes' on them in the attic. I think he's found my old ZX Spectrum games.

In 1990 game, Golden Axe from SEGA was voiced entirely by prisoners on death row.

Finish with a Song...

Given the today's theme.....Here is Chris Isaak with Wicked Game, released in
1989.
