Ok, like most writers, I hear "Well I want to write, I'm sure I can, but I don't know where to start"
We will cover "ideas" a bit later on. First lets deal with one of the major rules of writing, especially with fiction.
Show not Tell
If you've looked at various sites, you will see this time and time again, but, what does it mean? and how do you achieve this.
The best way to start and train yourself to get into this mindset is to perform a simple writing exercise.
Look at this image :-
So, I want you to look at this image, do not try and think of a story yet. I want you to answer the following
What does this room smell like?
What can you hear?
Is it warm or cold?
What is the chair made of?
How does the chair feel?
Who would use this chair?
Who put it in this room?
Why?
Where is this room?
How does this picture make you feel?
Is there anyone here?
Who?
Why?
Add your own questions.
This exercise will make you consider the information you write to show your potential reader the feelings involved with this image.
Send me your work via the message tab or via the email button and I will provide feedback.
Get writing !!
Lesson 2 ... soon.
