Early Morning Light.

My coughing woke me up.

Unable to lay down any longer,

I collect my clothes

not wanting to disturb the

sleeping husband.

Stumbling down the stairs,

clinging to the bannister.

I make a cup of coffee

and take it into the

living room.

Opening the curtains

there it is, my street!

Suddenly.

it is filled with early

morning light, brown tiled

roofs are flushed by the

rising sun.

The tree in the garden,

It’s lime green leaves turned

bright gold.

Looking down the street,

The sky is pink and golden.

Grey cotton wool clouds dot

the sky.

The intensity of the

early morning light takes my

breath away.

The sun is not yet in sight

yet, but its power and

brightness make me know that

morning has broken.

Yes, it is worth being

awake so early to see

the sun rising.

Light

All humans have the ability to see ultraviolet light, but it is passively filtered out by the eye’s lens. Patients who undergo surgery to remove the lens can detect ultraviolet light.

In 1999, Harvard physicist Lene Hau was able to slow down light to 17 meters per second and in 2001, was able to stop light completely.

Some areas in Scotland and Japan switched to blue street lights at night and saw a decrease in crime and suicide rates.

LED traffic lights have led to car crashes and deaths in the past, since they emit too little heat to melt snow & ice, which blocks the lights.

According to English law, the “Right to light” states that the owner of a building with windows who has received natural daylight for 20 years or more is entitled to forbid any construction or other obstruction that would deprive him or her of that illumination.

A team of developers are taking the glow in the dark enzyme that is found in species of jellyfish and fireflies and are creating bioluminescent trees. These trees can potentially light up public streets while being energy-neutral.

Supersonic aircraft or bullets produce sonic boom when waves generated by the supersonic body propagate at the speed of sound itself. Similarly for light, a blue glow is emitted when something travels faster than the speed of light moving through a medium (so light is slowed down). This is known as Cherenkov radiation.

While in space astronauts sometimes see random flashes of light caused by cosmic rays hitting the optic nerve. We don’t see it on earth because the magnetosphere protects us from the rays.

The blinking light atop the Capitol Records Tower spells out the word “Hollywood” in Morse code, and has done so since the building’s opening in 1956. 

The Hope Diamond glows red when exposed to UV light, fueling its cursed reputation.

Hello to all my flock. This week I’ve attended the last of this year's summer fete’s

It was so nice to see you all there, “hooking your ducks” and "Stoning your coconuts.”

I met a very nice young man called, Slasher, who told me all his problems as an agoraphobic skinhead. He confided in me that it can be so humiliating when he has to say “Oy you! Inside now !”

Well, Slasher this goes out to you, and all dirty rockers.
