I have been asked if I can come up with a children's story based around a Toy Hospital. I've been given a pretty specific brief.. This is the first chapter...what do you think ?
The pedals swished and rattled and the
tyres ‘thwipped, thwipped, thwipped’ on the
warm tarmac.
Ginny rode her little trusted red bike
through her village. Her corkscrew curly hair blew backwards it looked as if it
would fly off given half the chance. Luckily her matching red helmet kept it
on.
She waved at everyone as she sailed past.
Victoria Sponge who owned the local cake
shop waved back, she must have had flour still in her hands for, as she greeted
Ginny back a cloud of self-raising
enveloped her. Then Ginny passed Arthur Chicken the local butcher. “Hello, Mr Chicken” she called. The man had a moustache that seemed to stand out a mile at
either side of his face.
“Hello Ginny, are you off to the Hospital?”
“Yes I am”
“Say hello to your Granny for me, and tell
her I’ve got her tongue ready.”
Ginny tried to answer but realised she was
now too far away to be heard. Instead,
she just waved.
It
was a perfect sunny day and perfect school holiday for Ginny in the little
village of Middle Wallop. She was on her
way to visit her Grandmother and do her nursing duties
for the day.
Suddenly Ginny’s lovely day was interrupted
by a splat!. A large bug hit her squarely on the nose.
“Ouch!” she cried
and stopped her bike. She was glad she had her helmet on for two reasons. One being if she had lost control and fallen because
of the bug at least her head would have been OK and secondly... the bug may
have got in her hair…EEEEK!.
Ginny, reached
inside her sleeve and took out the tissue she kept there for just such emergencies,
she rubbed her nose and checked for any sign of blood, either her’s or the bug.
She sighed in relief the tissue was clean. As her role as a nurse, in Grandma’s
hospital, she knew the importance of always being prepared and, of course, cleanliness.
She looked over the road and saw a place where she could safely throw away her
tissue. She checked the road, both ways. As she got closer to the bin, she saw
a very strange sight.
Sticking out of
the bin were two pink legs. Ginny peered in and saw a small doll, she reached
in, moved the rubbish and pulled it out. “Oh, poor little dolly,” she cried. At
first, she thought it had different coloured arms to its legs. On a closer look,
she realised that someone had covered her arms and face in scribbly pen marks.
Blue and black lines swirled around the poor dolls face. Whoever had done this
must have been a very cruel person, ‘probably a boy!’ thought Ginny. The
dollies hair had also been cut, but not in a nice style like her own, no,
whoever had cut this had never ever been to a hairdresser! It was all chopped
off, tufts of hair were all that was left, and you could see lots of little
holes where the poor little things hair should have been. The doll’s dress that,
once upon a time, must have been a beautiful ivory satin gown was now in
tatters, probably shredded by the same evil scissors that cut her hair.
Ginny wiped the
doll with her tissue and soothingly whispered in her best nurses voice, “Don’t
you worry little dolly I know a place where we can make you better and
beautiful again” She placed the doll in her bicycle basket and peddled off, as
quickly as she could to Grandma’s Toy hospital.

Totally unconnected Finish with a Song
As you know, I usually try to match the song with the theme of the day's Blog. Well today, I haven't, this is a song I heard the other day, and although its over 20 years old, I think its beautiful. This is Jimmy Nail with Show me Heaven.
