NaPoWriMo, or National Poetry Writing Month, is an annual project in which participating
poets attempt to write a poem a day for the month of April.

Maureen Thorson, a poet and publisher of Big Game Books announced the project March 17, 2003 as an
online project on her blog. She invited other poets with blogs to join her in the project and listed
the participating poets. Thorson has continued to run the project each year on her blog with more
poets participating as the word has spread about the project.

FIRST CONTACT DAY
SOURCE TIMEANDDATE.COM

Fans of the sci-fi series Star Trek celebrate First Contact Day on April 5 to mark the day in 2063 when humans make their first contact with the Vulcans.
The day is celebrated as a minor holiday in the Star Trek world and made its first appearance on the episode named Homestead in the Star Trek: Voyager series.

TV Show

Star Trek is an American television and film enterprise first created in 1966 by Gene Roddenberry. The first television series in the franchise debuted in 1966 and is now known as The Original Series. It followed the adventures of the crew of the starship USS Enterprise under the leadership of Captain James T Kirk.

Humanoid Race

The Enterprise is a 23rd-century spaceship of the United Federation of Planets, a federation of more than 150 governments from different planets. The Federation as it is popularly known was created in 2161.
The Vulcans are a humanoid race from the planet Vulcan, which is about 16 light years from Earth. Vulcans are considered to be masters of logic who have found ways to suppress their violent emotions. Commander Spock is one of the most well-known Vulcans in the Star Trek universe.

How to Celebrate when this virus has gone.....

  • Have a Star Trek themed party for all your family and friends. Have your guests come dressed as their favorite characters.
  • Attend a Star Trek fan meet and meet other like-minded people.
  • Hold a Start Trek viewing marathon.
  • Greet everyone you meet on this day with the Vulcan salute. To do this, raise your hands with your palm facing outwards, and your thumb away from your hand. Part your middle and ring finger such that the index and middle finger are together and your ring and little finger are close to each other.
Star Trekking

When Enterprise launched to Space
Boldly looking for an alien race.
With her shields set on high,
as she shot through the sky,
and warped from place to place.

When the ship was attacked,
It always fought back
The phasers were fired;
the baddies expired,
and little small me was inspired

I wanted to be Kirk
To Captain and lead
Boldly go and go Boldly
All at light speed
So live long and prosper
Whatever your race
We’ll all be one nation
When we conquer space

When Stephen Hawking guest starred on the Star Trek: The Next Generation, he paused in front of the warp core set piece and remarked, “I’m working on that”.

Nichelle Nichols (“Lt. Uhura”) resigned from Star Trek after the first season, but reconsidered after a conversation with a big Star Trek fan. The fan was Martin Luther King, Jr.

An episode of Star Trek – The Next Generation was banned in Ireland and the UK because it referenced how Ireland was unified in 2024 after a successful terrorist campaign.

Ronald Reagan visited the set of Star Trek The Next Generation in 1991 during filming of “Redemption”. He remarked then “I like them [the Klingons]. They remind me of Congress.”

The Klingon language was first developed by James Doohan (Star Trek’s Scotty). He devised the language’s basic sound, first few words and phrases.

During the filming of Star Trek (2009) Zachary Quinto couldn’t manage to properly do the Vulcan salute. Eventually, JJ Abrams had to glue his
fingers together in order for Quinto to do it correctly.

Teleportation was used in Star Trek because the budget didn’t allow for expensive shots of spaceships landing on planets.

Eddie Murphy wanted a starring role in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. A part was written for him, but he ultimately disliked it and chose to make The Golden Child. Murphy later said this decision was a mistake.

Space Shuttle Constitution had its name changed to Enterprise following a letter-writing campaign by Star Trek fans.

Stephen Hawking guest starred in an Episode of Star Trek, as himself, playing a game of poker with Albert Einstein, Sir Isaac Newton and Data.

The first entirely computer generated movie sequence in cinema history was the Genesis Device demonstration video in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. The studio that made the scene would later become Pixar.

DeForest Kelley refused to deliver his catchphrase “he’s dead, Jim” at the end of Star Trek II for Spock’s death, feeling the line was too glib for the moment’s gravitas, which is why Scotty says, “He’s dead already.” instead.

James Doohan, who played Lt. Commander Montgomery Scott ( Scotty) on Star Trek, is missing the entire middle finger on his right hand (he lost it on D-Day).

In Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan’ all of Khan’s men were Chippendale dancers at the time.

Word to Your Mother
Word of the day: PROZVONIT (Czech) - to phone someone, but hang up before they answer so that they have to return the call and pay for it.

Random Joke of the Day
My Dad always used to say, "We should embrace our mistakes". Then he'd give me a Big Hug.

Great diverse short stories

Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
Love this writer I bought his previous books and in my opinion this is the best so far. The stories are much more diverse than the others. For a book of short stories there are a lot there, great to pop in and read as and when you want to. Read mine on the train, I laughed out loud at one point making my fellow passengers jump out of their seats. Recommended read....
