Hi all,
Hoped you liked yesterday poem from Sharon Shields, I've received a lot of nice feedback, which I will pass on to her.
Remember if you have some writing that you want to show. Then contact me via the box at the side or e-mail - Neville.raper@gmail.com.
Today's guest writer is Elisabeth Basford.
Her poem is an amusing little ditty about her prized Roger Moor autograph.....
THE DOUBLE DENIM DECEIT OF ROGER MOORE
THE DOUBLE DENIM DECEIT OF ROGER MOORE
IN AN AGE BEFORE SELFIES WHEN STARS KEPT THEIR DISTANCE
AUTOGRAPHS WERE HAD BY SHEER GUILE OR PERSISTENCE
THOSE THAT WERE GAINED WERE TREASURED AND REVERED
AND THOSE TOO WHO AQUIRED THEM WERE LAUDED AND CHEERED
THERE WAS JUST ONE KNOWN ACTOR OF WHOM WE WERE FOND
HE WAS THE SAINT, THE PERSUADER AND ALSO WENT BY BOND
WE WROTE OF OUR AFFECTION AND ASKED HIM TO AVAIL
IN FORWARDING A POSTER BY THE VERY SOONEST MAIL.
IMAGINE THEN OUR JOY WHEN A WEEK OR TWO HAD PASSED
ACROSS A DOUBLE DENIM POSTER A SIGNATURE WAS SPLASHED
WE COULDN’T BELIEVE OUR FORTUNE AND WE SHOUTED TO EVERY NOOK
‘WE’VE GOT A ROGER MOORE POSTER IF YOU WANT TO TAKE A LOOK’
THEY CAME FROM NEAR- THEY CAME FROM FAR - TO SEE THIS HANDSOME PRIZE
THEY NEEDED CONFIRMATION, TO SEE WITH THEIR OWN EYES
ME AND MY BIG BROTHER WERE EVEN IN THE POST
AND A PHOTO WAS ALSO TAKEN JUST TO QUALIFY OUR BOAST.
AS THE YEARS PASSED BY THE POSTER SADLY BEGAN TO WEAR
AND SO WITH A HEAVY HEART IT WAS STORED AWAY WITH THE GREATEST OF CARE
BUT NO ONE FORGOT THIS VALUABLE JEWEL THAT REMAINED AT THE FAMILY HOME
NOR THE FREQUENT REMINISES WITH FONDNESS IN THEIR TONE
FORTY YEARS LATER AT A GREAT FAMILY CELEBRATION
WE WERE ALL GATHERED WITH MUCH CHEER AND ELATION
WHEN OUR FATHER REVEALED BY A VERY CARELESS MISTAKE
THAT THE ONCE PRIZED POSSESSION WAS IN FACT JUST A FAKE
JUST A THROW AWAY REMARK AND A SLIP OF THE TONGUE
WHICH MEANT THAT FOR 40 YEARS WE HAD GOT IT ALL WRONG
LIKE A LIGHTENING BOLT BRINGING A DEADLY SHOCK TO MY EARS
AS I WONDERED HOW MANY OTHER LIES HE’D TOLD THROUGH THE YEARS
MY FATHER’S RESPONSE WAS QUITE MATTER OF FACT AS IF HE DIDN’T CARE
‘I JUST DIDN’T WANT YOU TO BE LET DOWN, THAT WAS MY GREATEST FEAR’
‘I KNEW HE WAS A MEGA STAR AND HE HAD FAR BETTER THINGS TO DO
THAN READ A LETTER FROM TWO TINY KIDS AND SIGN A POSTER TO YOU.’
AS IF TO PROVE MY DAD WAS WRONG I WROTE THE STAR A LETTER
I RELATED ALL MY TALE TO HIM AND ASKED HIM TO MAKE IT BETTER
I REQUESTED A SIGNED PHOTOGRAPH AND IT IRKS ME AS I SIGH
THAT IT’S BEEN OVER TWO YEARS NOW AND I’VE STILL HAD NO REPLY!
Brilliant !!!
Remember, Viagra wont make you James Bond, but it will help you Roger Moore
